Fire Exit Door

An emergency exit in a building a special exit for emergencies such as a fire. It is usually located in for example the stairwell, hallway or the perimeter of the building, a Fire Exit door should be outward opening door and fitted with a push bar or push pad with exit signs clearly identifying its location, it is designed allow faster evacuation of the building in an emergency and also provides an alternative if the regular exit is blocked by fire. A fire exit door can also be designated as the main entrance to the building in some smaller buildings.Local building regulations will dictate the number of fire exits required on a property taking into account size and the use the building is designed for as well as the number of people that are using it at any one time.

Importance of Signage
The importance of properly signed and fully operational Fire Exit doors cannot be overstated in the potential for saving lives, it is most important that in larger buildings such as schools, office blocks supermarkets for example fire drills are carried out to practice using the Fire Exit doors in an emergency. Many disasters would have been prevented if people had known where fire escapes were, it is also vital that fire exits are not blocked or locked when the building is occupied.

Steel Entry Door

Advantages of fitting Steel Doors
Home office statistics show that more than 70% of burglars are gained by forced entry through a building’s doors, although high quality locks are important with any door, wooden doors are let down by a being fitted into a wooden frame which if attacked with a crow bar or the door is kicked causes the frame to splinter and break especially in the weak area where the locks are fitted because the frame is cut out for the lock to be fitted, entry is then gained, this only takes a matter of seconds in most cases.

Benefit of Steel Frames
A major benefit of fitting a heavy duty steel door in a steel Metal frame is that the frames are much less likely to fail even after repeated and determined attack, often the only way to breach the door is to wrench the whole door and frame out of the opening, if properly installed by an accredited security installer that should be very difficult. Wooden Fire Exitdoors are especially vulnerable to being attacked and breached from the outside because they are usually only secured by a single point push pad or two point push bar, a high quality Steel Fire Exit door offers a far greater level of security because of it’s steel frame.

An alarm alone is not enough
Alarm systems and other electronic security systems have an important role to play in securing property especially as a deterrent and minimising the amount of time the burglars remain in the building, however most security alarms are not responded to for 10 or 15 minutes have passed. This is plenty of time for a wooden door and frame to be broken the property entered and valuables stolen.Steel

Security

Doors and Fire Exit Doors will either prevent entry in the first place or if they are breached by a very determined thief reduce the amount of time on site and the amount of property stolen, most thieves are opportunists and in will in most cases choose to attack a building without the benefit of having Steel Security or Steel Fire Exit Doors fitted.

Importance of Rust Proofing
Corrosion can be a problem with some makes of Steel Door especially some of those made by back street fabricators and blacksmiths, it is important to only purchase doors that are fully galvanized or made from zintec coated steel, without this type of rust prevention Steel Fire Exit Doors and Security Doors will deteriorate very quickly not only in appearance but also ultimately the level of security will be reduced.Low maintenance and long life is a major advantage of fitting Steel Fire Exit Doors instead of traditional wooden doors which rot if exposed to the elements if not painted on a regular basis, also in winter wooden doors can swell in the frames making opening difficult compromising safety.

Energy Efficiency
Energy efficiency is becoming an issue for every business and ill fitting badly insulated wooden doors can be a hidden cost, steel doors are manufactured together with the frame so that the best fit is achieved, seals make the doors draft proof, also insulation can included in the core of the door leaf to improve the energy efficiency of the door further.

Fire Rating
Most steel doors can be supplied Fire Rating and the manufacturer should be able to produce a certificate to prove the level of rating that the door has achieved in test conditions, it is usually starts from 30minutes to over 4 hours, fire rated doors need to be fitted with a fire tested door closer to comply with the certification.
